About

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice using thin needles inserted into specific body points to stimulate nerves, muscles, and connective tissues, aiming to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and promote overall well-being by balancing the body’s energy flow (Qi) or triggering natural pain-relieving chemicals like endorphins. While traditional theory speaks of unblocking meridians, Western science suggests it works by stimulating the central nervous system.

How it Works (Traditional & Western Views)

01

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Believes illness stems from blocked or imbalanced vital energy (Qi) flowing through channels (meridians). Acupuncture inserts needles to unblock these channels and restore harmony.

02

Western Medicine

Suggests needle stimulation triggers the nervous system to release endorphins, neurohormones, and opioids, influencing pain perception and promoting healing. It can also affect involuntary functions like blood flow and blood pressure.
